Sessions can incorporate any combination of the following techniques, based on the needs, goals, and requests of the individual.

Trigger points are defined by their patterns of referred pain to other distinct locations in muscles, connective tissues and organs. Trigger point massage applies specific targeted pressure, known as ischemic compression, to release tension across a pain referral pattern.

Fascia is the connective tissue that provides support and protection for most structures within the human body, including muscle. This soft tissue can become restricted due to overuse, trauma, infectious agents, or inactivity, often resulting in pain, muscle tension, and diminished blood flow. Myofascial release uses slow prolonged stretching of the fascial tissue to facilitate change.

Swedish massage is a systematic approach that includes five primary techniques: effleurage (long, gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading and rolling), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (deep, circular movements), and vibration (gentle shaking). These techniques work together to reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow, and promote relaxation.

Reflexology, aka “foot zone therapy,” is based on the premise that energy flows through the body from the brain to the feet. Every organ and cell has a representative point on the foot, and when pressure is applied, the brain sends a signal to the corresponding part of the body to facilitate healing and restore balance.

Lymphatic drainage massage relieves swelling from blockages in the lymphatic system resulting from medical treatment, illness, or stagnation. Facilitating the movement of lymphatic fluid in turn supports the function of the immune system, helping with the elimination of toxins.

Craniosacral therapy uses gentle and sustained hands-on contact, focusing on the head, spinal column, and sacrum, with attunement to the rhythm of cerebrospinal fluid. This technique is notably effective for relieving nervous system stress symptoms associated with a wide range of physical and emotional ailments, including insomnia, brain injury, autoimmune disorders, and PTSD.

Gua Sha was developed thousands of years ago by the Chinese. This involves using a rounded tool, such as a ceramic soup spoon, to glide over the skin, targeting stubborn “knots” or deep fascial adhesions. Gua Sha is especially effective for treating neck and shoulder pain, tension headaches, and plantar fasciitis.
• Gua Sha may leave coloration on the skin for 3-5 days following treatment, similar to cupping. This coloration (called petechiation) is not harmful and is not the same as bruising.

Lateness can happen for so many unexpected reasons. While it is optimal to arrive 10 minutes early, there is no judgement on this end for imperfect timing. Geri cannot guarantee availability for extending your time-slot, but will make adjustments to your time-slot as availability allows to maximize the amount hands-on time that you booked, even if you’re running late.

Cancelation is welcome for any reason up to 24 hours in advance. You can cancel by email, text, or phone call. Canceling less than 24 in advance will result in a 50% charge. If the reason for last-minute cancelation is due to flu-like symptoms or other infectious disease precautions, the cancelation fee will be waived.

This is entirely up to you. Most people receiving a full body massage will undress fully or fully except their underpants, while some choose to keep all or most of their clothes on. All of these options are welcome. Throughout the massage only the area of the body receiving massage at that time will be undraped, and private areas will always remain draped.

Your massage time is your time to relax in whatever way feels best. Geri will not initiate conversation, but you are welcome to talk if talking is what feels most comfortable and relaxing for you.
Real-time feedback about pressure and focus areas are especially encouraged when an adjustment is wanted. The magic words “Less,” “More,” and “Stop,” are always welcome. Geri will periodically check in to ensure that their techniques are being delivered both effectively and comfortably. -
Feeling an emotional release while receiving massage is an entirely normal experience. Our bodies hold so much. If a wave of emotional vulnerability comes up during your massage, Geri will communicate with you through the experience to adaptively support your individual needs. This could include a continuation of therapeutic contact or a pause from contact, a guided breathing or somatic practice, space to talk through what’s coming up, words of affirmation, or a gently held silence. Every tender moment and every person is unique. Our goal is to find what’s most supportive for you, with the assurance that all feelings are welcome and tissues are always available.

Meet Geri, Licensed Massage Therapist in Asheville, NC
Geri (they/them) brings a decade of trauma-informed community care into their massage therapy practice.
Before becoming a licensed massage therapist, Geri served the WNC community in roles including domestic violence advocacy, community-based mental health services, home healthcare, support group facilitation, mutual aid organizing, and climate justice work.
This background shapes a massage practice rooted in compassion, respect, and non-judgment—meeting each person exactly where they are.
As a lifelong dancer and movement artist, Geri approaches the body as intelligent and adaptive. In 2025, they completed clinical massage therapy training at AB Tech Community College.
